With reference to the first meeting of the Board of Directors of Cotton Ginning and Research Institute Multan held on January 15, 2008, of which SMEDA is a member & headed by Secretary MINTEX; SMEDA was assigned to conduct a survey of existing ginning machinery manufacturers of Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Burewala, Arifwala, Sahiwal, Faisalabad.

For the purpose a simplified Performa was developed with the aim to gather baseline data on the Ginning Machinery and spare parts manufacturers. The data collected would become a permanent record of Cotton Ginning & Research Institute. In this context SMEDA’s RBC’s in Multan Faisalabad and Rahim Yar Khan were also engaged to assist technical services department.

The research methodology for collection of information was based on primary data collection mode. Survey guidelines and data collection tools were developed for conducting on-site interviews. In depth interactive sessions were held after identifying themanufacturers/suppliers in different areas of Multan, Rahim Yar Khan & Saqiqabad, Vehari, Burewala, Arifwala, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur. These interviews also helped in gathering some critical information regarding the industrial operations and norms.
